Given my educational background, you would not have expected me to be working as a Building Surveyor, it was not until the 2021 lockdown where I was able to evaluate myself, I decided to undertake an MSc in Building Surveying. The interest comes from watching lots of Grand Designs and the hands on approach a building surveyor is required to take.
APA have provided me with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, which helped me achieve my chartered status. This not only helps me gain a large amount of experience but also means the job doesn’t get boring… not to mention the regular staff and client outings!
I am an outdoorsy kind of person, I play hockey, enjoy skiing/snowboarding, and you’ll occasionally see me running a 5k around Hyde Park, I also enjoy attending music festivals and events.
I have had a keen interest in buildings since working on building sites at the age of 16. Through gaining experience by achieving a BSc Building Surveying degree and working with large developers/ consultants within the industry, I have developed a keen interest in building pathology and surveying.
From the start, APA provided excellent opportunities and support in order to develop my experience and skills which enabled me to recently achieve my goal of becoming a chartered building surveyor. I also enjoy the variation of work; working on a range of different projects in several sectors.
I am a big Manchester United supporter, so I regularly travel up to Manchester to watch the home matches and watch us get beat! In my spare time I also enjoy playing football, golf, going to the gym and enjoy going out with friends.
My interest in the built environment began with a passion for architecture. During an architecture and interior design course, my mentor introduced me to Building Surveying in my final year, and I quickly developed a strong interest in the field. I was particularly drawn to the combination of technical problem-solving, hands-on site work, and the opportunity to make a lasting, practical impact on how buildings are repaired, adapted, and preserved.
I am energised by the diversity of projects at APA and the chance to learn directly from experienced professionals in a supportive, collaborative environment. The variety of work continually challenges me and allows me to expand my knowledge, which is invaluable as I progress towards my chartership.
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new places and experiences. I also have a strong interest in continuous learning, whether through reading, listening, or engaging with new ideas. Maintaining a balance between activity, discovery, and downtime helps me stay motivated and refreshed.
With over six years of experience in a busy people-facing role, I was looking to develop my skills and experience new challenges in a different field. APA offers opportunities to take on varied tasks and encourages learning which suits my new direction.
It’s very varied, which means I get to use my initiative and I’m able to develop and adapt my role. The team is very supportive of each other, I can get involved as much as possible and gain a full understanding of the work I’m part of.
I love sports and regularly coach Netball and other disciplines including athletics, football and gymnastics.
W: I’ve always known I had a nose for business… or maybe it was the scent of treats in the office that led me here! Either way, hanging out with the team at APA seemed like the perfect job. I help by providing stress relief through belly rubs and my world-class napping skills.
C: I was destined for greatness. I mean, when you’re as funny as me, you’re practically born to be the office MVP (Most Valuable Pup). I got my start by following my human to work one day and quickly realised my true calling: head of cuddles and morale booster.
N: My journey began when I realised how much my human needed me at work. One look at my big puppy eyes, and everyone knew I belonged in the office. Now, I’m a full-time love-spreader and the face of happiness here at APA.
W: It’s all about the people! They’re always excited to see me, which is brilliant. Plus, there’s no shortage of ear scratches, and I love sitting in on meetings, especially when there’s food involved.
C: The energy in this place is pawsome! My humans are always working hard, and I make sure to keep them company. I get energised by how much joy I can bring to their day just by being here, wagging my tail.
N: Every day is different! Whether I’m strolling through the office looking for treats or chasing the occasional ball, it’s the smiles I bring that keep me going. Plus, the afternoon snack breaks, totally worth it.
W: Outside of the office, I’m all about long walks and exploring new smells. I also have a serious talent for lounging on the sofa, watching my human cook, and hoping for a tasty treat to fall my way.
C: I’m always on the lookout for new adventures—whether it’s a trip to the dog park or a playful tug-of-war with my favourite toy. When I’m not working hard at APA, you’ll find me running zoomies in the garden.
N: I love spending time with my family and getting all the belly rubs. Weekends are for relaxing, rolling in the grass, and making sure my humans keep rubbing my tummy. When I’m not outside, I’m usually snoozing in my favourite sunny spot.
